A guitar valued at more than R$40,000, which was stolen in 2016, in Belo Horizonte, was recovered by police on the coast of Espírito Santo.
The instrument, a Gibson The Paul Black Beauty, manufactured in 1996, was located last Tuesday (14), in a residence in downtown Anchieta, after an exchange of information between the Civil Police of the two states.
“The police from Minas received information that the instrument was being sold through social networks and the seller was in the municipality of Anchieta (ES). It was the owner of the guitar who recognized the object and communicated it to the police”, reported the police chief Gianno Trindade, from the Specialized Precinct for Property Security.
The police went to the place where the guitar would be removed and found a 35-year-old man, in possession of four electric guitars, including the one that was stolen in the capital of Minas Gerais. After being stolen, the guitar was taken to Fortaleza and then to Espírito Santo.
The man who was in possession of the guitars will be investigated, but has not been arrested, as the police have not yet concluded whether he knew of the illicit origin of the instrument.
“We made contact with the person who sold the stolen guitar to him, who informed the origin and who purchased it, and so on. Given the succession chain of collectors and the time elapsed from the theft, an investigation was opened to find out who of these, he was aware of the illicit origin of the instrument,” explained the delegate.
As for the other guitars, the police found that they were acquired in the same way. They remained in the power of the investigated.
