The second largest cargo plane in the world landed this morning at around 8 am at the Belo Horizonte International Airport, in Confins. The Antonov AN-124 model carries a 51.5-tonne trunnion, equipment from the Anglo American mining company, according to the company. It is the first time that the aircraft lands at the terminal since the company BH Airport took over the management seven years ago.
According to Anglo American, the Antonov AN-124 is 69 meters long and can weigh 151 tonnes. The model is only behind the model AN-225, which returned to commercial flights in July this year.
Considered the largest freighter in the world, the model has a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tons, which includes the weight of the aircraft itself plus the fuel and cargo transported. It is operated by Antonov Airlines.
Anglo American informed that the transported trunnion should be used in the iron ore reduction process in operation in Conceição do Mato Dentro, in the interior of Minas Gerais. The freighter left Germany and also passed through Cape Verde before arriving in Brazil.
The operation required special transport licenses, which were made possible by DHL Global Forwarding.
